I visited my local book shop and treated myself to some new books for the new month of April! I am ecstatic with my new babies and can not wait to read them. All of these books were marked with ‘buy one get one half price’ stickers, so I saved some money too. If I’m honest, I chose most of these for the covers, My bookshelf is becoming more and more beautiful each month. Here we go…
Book number one: ‘Ink’ by Alice Broadway
This book is officially the most beautiful that I own. The cover is black with a golden metallic pattern. It so SHINY! This book was only released in February and is the first of a new series called ‘The Skin Books’. Bit of a creepy name for a series.
‘Every action, every deed, every significant moment is tattooed on your skin for ever. When Leora’s father dies, she is determined to see her father remembered forever. She knows he deserves to have all his tattoos removed and made into a Skin Book to stand as a record of his good life. But when she discovers that his ink has been edited and his book is incomplete, she wonders whether she ever knew him at all.’
Book number two: ‘The Darkest Part Of The Forest’ by Holly Black
The blurb really caught my attention on this one. I love all things fae and this book involves faerie creatures. I don’t much about the book other than that, but sometimes its nice to just read something random and let it be a surprise.
‘Hazel lives with her brother, Ben, in the strange town of Fairfold where humans and fae exist side by side. The faeries’ seemingly harmless magic attracts tourists, but Hazel knows how dangerous they can be, and she knows how to stop them. Or she did, once.
At the center of it all, there is a glass coffin in the woods. It rests right on the ground and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointed as knives. Hazel and Ben were both in love with him as children. The boy has slept there for generations, never waking.
Until one day, he does…’
Book number three: ‘The Girl Of Ink And Stars’ by Kiran Millwood Hargrave.
This one has been sitting on my amazon list for quite a while, so I extremely happy to spot it sitting in the book shop. I much prefer buying books in a shop than online. The shopkeeper was extremely helpful and had a tiny dance with me over this book.
‘Forbidden to leave her island, Isabella Riosse dreams of the faraway lands her father once mapped.
When her closest friend disappears into the island’s Forgotten Territories, she volunteers to guide the search. As a cartographer’s daughter, she’s equipped with elaborate ink maps and knowledge of the stars, and is eager to navigate the island’s forgotten heart.
But the world beyond the walls is a monster-filled wasteland – and beneath the dry rivers and smoking mountains, a legendary fire demon is stirring from its sleep. Soon, following her map, her heart and an ancient myth, Isabella discovers the true end of her journey: to save the island itself. ‘
Book number four: ‘The Island At The End Of Everything’ by Kiran Millwood Hargrave.
I picked up to book along with ‘The Girl Of Ink And Stars’. They sat next to each other on the cutest little table. This is the newest book from the author and sounded quite interesting, so I thought I would give it a go.
Ami lives with her mother on an island where the sea is as blue as the sky. It’s all she knows and loves, but the arrival of malicious government official Mr Zamora changes her world forever: her island is to be made into a colony for lepers. Taken from her mother and banished across the sea, Ami faces an uncertain future in an orphanage. There she meets a honey-eyed girl named for butterflies, and together they discover a secret that will lead her on an adventure home. Ami must go back to the island of no return, but will she make it in time?
I hope you enjoyed my little haul!
